St Joseph

£110.00

An elegant and rare Staffordshire figure depicting St Joseph, the husband of the Virgin Mary.

He wears a flowing robe with one hand on his heart and the other resting on a column. Like similar figures of saints of this period (some of which have been stocked by Rowan Cottage Antiques and may have been made by the same factory), the figure is conservatively decorated with white and lovely gilt highlights and patterns. Only St Joseph’s face, hair, and hands have been fully coloured.

The figure is in very good condition with no damage. It is nicely decorated with a rich, thick glaze. There is some flaking to the lower side of St Joseph’s hair.
