A charming Staffordshire figure depicting St Joseph - the husband of Mary - holding the infant Christ.

This simple but impactful figure features Joseph fully clothed in white with gilt details. Christ is partly swaddled in white cloth and holds a rod of flowers in his hand. The figure is titled ‘St Joseph’ in elegant gilt script.

The figure is in good condition but for a small firing crack beneath one of Joseph’s eyes and some flaking to the brown hair of the two figures.

A similarly posed but colourful figure of exceptional quality and rarity is recorded by Stephen Duckworth.
