A fun figure depicting a zebra.
Like many Staffordshire zebra figures, this form was originally produced as a horse (complete with bridle and horse’s mane and tail) but has been decorated, loosely, as a zebra with black and white stripes. While more accurate zebra figures were produced, these ‘horse zebras’ and reasonably common.
This simple figure is in good condition. There is a superficial slip-deep chip just below the zebra’s back and there is restoration to the back of the base (not visible from the front).
Reference: Possibly unrecorded
Height: 6.5”
Date: c. 1870s
