A rare and desirable large figure depicting the Prime Minister, William Ewart Gladstone.

Gladstone, wearing a white frockcoat, waistcoat, and trousers, stands with one hand raised, leaning against a naturalistically modelled tree trunk with his left hand, the same hand holding a paper, presumable a speech, decorated in gilt.

The figure is simply decorated - largely white but with gilt highlights to the clothing details, wood-grain, and speech. The title ‘Gladstone’ is written on the base in gilt, cursive script.

This rare Gladstone figure is offered in good condition with no apparent repairs or restoration. There is fading to the bright gilt - both the highlights and to the title - but the painting of the face and hair is in very good order. There is a manufacturing flaw on the base in the form of a large pockmark and some original firing flaws between Gladstone’s legs, at the top of the tree trunk, and at the joins of his right arms. The figure is not perfectly balanced. Aside from the fading of the gilt, all such imperfections relate to manufacturing flaws.
