Welsh ('Welch') Hunters

£195.00

A fabulous and very rare equestrian figure depicting a Welsh hunter sitting on a horse.

The hunter wears a Welsh style top hat, a cobalt jacket, yellow patterned waistcoat, and orange neckerchief. He holds a rifle in his left hand and his horse’s reign in his right. Two dead rabbits are strapped to the horse’s back. The title - ‘WELCH HUNTERS’ (an archaic spelling of ‘Welsh’) - is written in raised gilt serif capitals on the base with downward curving gilt bands on either side.

This scarce figure may have a pair, but that is not at all clear. It exists as part of a small and highly desirable collection of figures depicting Welsh subjects.

The figure is in excellent condition with some professional repairs to nibbles around the brim of the hat, and a very small superficial chip in the left knee has been filled.

Height: 10.5”
