A scarce and interesting figure of a male theatrical performer.
The moustachioed man wears a yellow coat and breeches with a white shirt, green neckerchief, and plumed hat. It is modelled simply on a rocky-textured base with a yellow band.
The identity of the performer or role has never been established. This is a simple earthenware figure - a dense and weighty piece which is nicely modelled for its size but rather naively and crudely decorated.
The figure is offered in fair condition. There are two small nibbles to the hat (one of which predates the glaze) and a chip and cracks to the right side (viewer’s left) of the base. It is quite heavily crazed. But it displays well and is an unusual example of a theatrical figure.
