A charming figural spill vase featuring two swans before a tree trunk, surrounded by shredded clay parsley.
This lovely figure is well composed and nicely modelled.
It is offered in excellent original condition with no damage, loss, or repair. There is extensive discolouration to parts of the undecorated portion - particularly the mouth of spill and the back of the (viewer’s) left swan. This is probably the result of improper firing.
Reference: Possibly unrecorded, but a very similar example with cygnets can be found at: A. & N. Harding, Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835 - 1875: Book Three, p. 258 (232), fig. a2832A
Height: 4.5”
Date: c. 1860
