Sheep Shearer (Dudson Factory)

£100.00

A handsome and beautifully decorated figure of a sheep shearer.

The man - in ornate agricultural dress and broad-brimmed hat - sits with a sheep in his lap. Piles of shorn fleece are at his feet on a rich earthy base with gilt decorations. The man’s outfit is also heavily gilded.

The figure presents very well. There is a professional, invisible repair to the hat, some very small, discreet nibbles to the base, and some rubbing to the gilt commensurate with age. There is loss to the tip of the sheep’s left, outward facing ear. Aside from this, this beautiful figure is excellent and fabulously decorated.

Reference: Possibly unrecorded

Height: 6.5”

Date: c. 1840

Provenance: A substantial, high-quality private collection (name unknown)
