Robert Burns and 'Highland' Mary Campbell

£75.00

A nicely made figure depicting Robert Burns and ‘Highland’ Mary Campbell with whom Burns was in love and to whom dedicated several songs and poems.

The two sit on a rocky base, Burns’ right arm around Mary’s shoulder as he holds her right hand with his left. Mary wears a green bodice and floral dress. Burns wears a blue jacket, magenta breeches, a blue bonnet, and plaid scarf. A small black and white dog sits besides them. A titled version of this figure is recorded but this figure is untitled, instead sporting a simple gilt band.

The figure is nicely modelled and well-decorated with no loss. There is a lovely cobalt tinge to the thick glaze. The figure is in good condition but flakes to the both characters’ hair have been rather heavily retouched.
