Resting Harvester (probably Dudson)

£70.00

A beautiful and very fine figure depicting a harvester sitting on a wheatsheaf, his sickle by his side and a jug and cup in his hands.

The man wears a white jacket with beautiful, prominent gilt details, a gilt-brimmed hat, pink trousers, white socks, and orange shoes. He holds a large jug decorated with various gilt patterns in his left hand and a gilt-rimmed cup in his right. A sickle sits on the ground at his right side. The scene is modelled atop a rugged white octagonal base.

This little porcelaneous figure was probably made by the Dudson Factory. Similar figures are attributed to Dudson and the vibrant gilt foliate pattern is found in other Dudson figures.

The quality of this figure is absolutely excellent. It is offered in good condition. The right forearm has been discreetly repaired at the elbow but aside from this I can detect no damage, loss or restoration (I do not have a full history of the figure and cannot altogether rule out truly invisible professional restoration - though I cannot identify any). The delicate modelling is very appealing, the decoration superb.
