A beautiful early bocage figure depicting a boy and girl with a lamb titled ‘Tenderness’. This figure was made by the potter Ralph Wood.
This enamel-decorated figure has an impressed number ‘153’ on the reverse, and it is thought to pair with a similar figure titled ‘Friendship’.
This figure displays beautifully but there is loss to the garland of leaves the characters are draping around the neck of the lamb. The lamb’s right ear has been professionally restored. There are some superficial scuffs to the brim of the boy’s hat and some tiny, negligible nibbles to the bocage fronds, but the bocage itself appears to be present and original. I can detect no other damage or repair but stress that highly professional restoration cannot be entirely ruled out.
