RESERVED - Cobbler

£85.00

A fabulous and unusual pre-Victorian porcelain figure depicting a cobbler hard at work on his bench.

A superb form with a face full of character and personality. Beautifully decorated.

Similar early figures are recorded including one marked ‘Walton’ (though the potter is unlikely to be the well-known John Walton).

The main body of the figure is in excellent condition but there is loss to the rim of the underside of the base (as shown in the images). Aside from the damage to the base, I can detect no damage or repair, although there is some loss to the gilt.

(A hand-written label on the base of the figure suggests it was formerly stock of Oliver-Sutton Antiques, but without an original Oliver-Sutton Antiques label this cannot be treated as reliable.)
