A rare equestrian figure depicting Prince Albert on horseback.
Albert, in military garb with a plumed hat, sits on a well-clad brown horse with a green saddle cloth. He is modelled on a white, rocky base. The figure’s title - ‘P ALBERT’ - is written in gilt, raised, serif capital letters (although the gilt has faded).
This figure commemorates the British alliance with the Ottoman Empire during the Crimean War. It pairs with a figure of Abu-el-Medjid titled ‘SULTAN’.
The figure is offered in good, professionally repaired condition. It displays excellently. There is a professional, practically invisible repair to the neck, a small flake to Albert’s right shoe, and an old lateral crack to the back of the figure just above the base.
