SOLD - Peace
A charming and moving early Staffordshire pearlware figure of the personification of Peace burning the tools of ware. This might be called an ‘Enoch Wood Type’ figure but I cannot confidently state who potted it.
Peace wears a laurel crown and carries a laurel branch in her left hand. In her right hand she carries a flaming torch with which she is burning weaponry and armour - a helmet, a quiver of arrows, a shield, a sword, a spear, and an axe. Visually, this is a very powerful figure.
The figure is very nicely presented with just a few signs of age. The enamel of Peace’s nose is slightly worn and there are some superficial chips to her hair. There may be some over-painting on her right arm, but if there is it has been very capably done. There is a little chip to the corner of the head of the axe at her feet.
Height: 8”
Date: c. 1820
