Pair of Whippets

£145.00

A fine later 19th century pair of whippets with game.

The two dogs stand alert on all fours, their mouths open, and dead rabbits or hares at their feet. They are modelled and beautifully coloured naturalistic bases. They wear white collars with gilt trims and the lower portion of the base is circled by a bright gilt band. The nature of the gilt indicates a date of manufacture in the later part of the 19th century.

The left-hand, right facing dog is in very good original condition with only very small spots of flaking and some very small nibbled around the lip of the base.

The right-hand, left facing dog presents well but its neck has been repaired and both ears have been restored. The extent of this repair and restoration is fairly clear up close and while the work falls short of ‘professional’ it is nonetheless reasonably thorough, restoring the figure to a displayable condition. Please be sure to examine the images for a clear idea of the current condition of the neck and ears. There is also a small chip visible on the lip of the base.
