SOLD - Pair of Miniature Hunters on Horseback
A charming little matched equestrian pair of fairings depicting hunters on horseback and hunting dogs.
The hunters - one wearing a green jacket and the other a blue jacket - hold onto galloping black and white horses. Hunting dogs - one black and white and one brown and white - run alongside at full stretch. The scenes are modelled on green and yellow textures backdrops with white, yellow-banded bases.
These figure are presumably fairings - small, simple figures produced in great number with only one firing, intended to be prizes to be given away at cheapjack stalls and fairs.
Both fairings are in good original condition with no damage. There is a firing flaw to the (viewer’s) right of the right-facing figure and there is some kiln debris in the left-facing figure.
Reference: A. & N. Harding, Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835 - 1875: Book Three, p. 161, figs a1960A and a1960B
Height: 4.25”
Date: c. 1860
