Napoleon Bonaparte with Eagle

£95.00

An interesting figure depicting Napoleon Bonaparte in military attire standing next to an eagle.

The decoration of the figure is cursory but not ineffective. The feathers of the eagle are rather attractive, and the head of the eagle is separately modelled.

This figure is the smaller of two sizes in which this figure was produced.

Napoleon’s neck has been repaired and his collar and gilt trim repainted to conceal the repair. This is reasonable subtle when displayed. There is light flaking to his boots.

Reference: P. D. Gordon Pugh, Staffordshire Portrait Figures, p. C258, pl. 12, fig. 37

Height: 10”

Date: c. 1840s

Provenance: A substantial, high-quality private collection, name unknown. (The former owner’s reference label has been left attached should the buyer be able to identify other figures from the same collection.)
