Napoleon Bonaparte
A fine and well composed figure depicting Napoleon Bonaparte.
Napoleon is modelled standing on a rocky base. He wears a cobalt military jacket with gilt insignia, a green checked waistcoat, a black cocked hat, black boots, and an orange-lined yellow cape which billows behind him. He holds a spyglass in his right hand. The base is coloured in vivid tones of yellow, green, and grey, as is studded with green and russet shredded clay parsley. The scene sits atop a circular base decorated with two tapering gilt lines with a central floral motif.
This figure is very attractive and well modelled. It is a lively depiction with movement and bold colouring. The hat and boots are decorated with underglaze black so are immune to flaking, and the gilt is in very good order.
The figure displays brilliantly and is offered in excellent repaired condition. There is a professional, discreet repair to the neck, and a repair to a small chip on the back of the cape (viewer’s right when viewed from behind; not visible from the front). There has been some professional, effectively unnoticeable retouching to the orange and yellow of the cape.
