Mr Pickwick and Sam Weller (Dudson)

£375.00

A superbly modelled and decorated pair of figures depicting the Dickensian characters Mr Pickwick and Sam Weller from The Pickwick Papers.

This pair of figures were made by the Dudson Factory following the completion of the serialisation of The Pickwick Papers in 1838. Stylistically, they are very fine examples of the Dudson Factory’s unique and celebrated approach to the production of figures complete with vibrant and expressive colours (particularly the bright green bases), careful detailing, and deft, characterful modelling.

Mr Pickwick is in excellent condition with no apparent restoration. He has a very small superficial chip to the inside of his hat but nothing which affects the aesthetic quality of the figure. Sam Weller is in very good condition with only a small chip to the front-facing edge of the herb and the back of his heel, neither of which have been restored or repaired. There are some small patches of enamel flaking to the overglaze black of Weller’s sleeves and the boots he is polishing. Aside from the small chips to the kerb, this pair is offered in unusually good condition, both structurally and decoratively.
