Money Box

£85.00

A rare, unusual and very appealing diminutive earthenware money box in the shape of a man’s head.

This curious and eye-catching little object is fashioned in the shape of a portly man’s grinning face. He wears a green bowtie and a blue cap.

Money boxes of this nature are rare as so many of them would have been smashed (as was customary) to retrieve the stashed coins. While not a thing of beauty, it is a fantastic example of a usable piece of Staffordshire figural pottery, brimming with personality and character.

The money box is in good condition. There is some scuffing to the glaze and enamels (possibly original imperfections), pitting, and flaking to the bowtie. Regardless, it is offered in complete condition as a brilliant novelty.
