Miniature Nun and Monk
A very rare and unusual late 19th century figure of a woman offering water to a monk or priest. The specific subject or purpose of the figure is not known.
The figure is sparsely decorated with red details on the two figures’ robes and bright, reflective gilt trims to the collars and hoods. The priest or monk kneels as though exhausted on a simple green base.
The figure is in good condition. There are some manufacturing flaws on the rim of the base where glaze has not taken and some of the gilt is lost, but there is no post-production damage or repair.
While small and simple, this is a scarce figure and an interesting example of such a late 19th century religious figure, with plenty of its own appeal.

Height: 3.5”
