A very handsome and nicely decorated figure depicting a man wearing a turban, cloak, tunic, pantaloons and sash. In his right hand he carries a pipe and in his left a dagger or short sword.
The figure is probably theatrical in nature and may depict the character Giaffier from Lord Byron’s play The Bride of Abydos. A female figure - perhaps Zuleika from the same play - is recorded but not offered here.
The figure is very elegant and smartly decorated and appears to be a product of the Thomas Parr Factory.
It is offered in generally good condition. There is a chip to the base on the back of the figure (not visible when displayed) and some light nibbles elsewhere around the base. Some flaking to the shoes and pipe have been discreetly retouched. There is some fading and flaking to the blue tunic and, in places, to the brown and green base.
