Gardener

£145.00

A fabulous early bocage figure depicting a gardener, possibly produced by Samuel Hall.

The gardener leans on a spade in his right hand and holds a plant pot - complete with an independently modelled pink flower - in his right. Beside him is a fountain from which water flows into a stream from a gargoyle’s mouth. A yellow watering can rests atop the fountain. The scene is framed with lovely green bocage with pink flowers.

This is a really delightful early figure, full of detail, vibrant enamels, and high-quality modelling.

The figure is offered in very good condition. Some enamel flakes have been discreetly retouched (such as to the trousers, edges of the bocage, watering can, etc.). I cannot detect any restoration, though I cannot altogether rule out the possibility of some highly professional restoration to the tips of the bocage or other fragile features.
