A very fine and well-coloured figure, thought to depict the actress, writer, and abolitionist Fanny Kemble (1809 - 1893). She is resplendent for the stage in a white and gilt boddice, a cobalt over-skirt with pink shredded clay trim, pink gloves, and green leg-of-mutton sleeves.
This figure was previously sold in 2000 by Christie’s as part of the famous Oliver-Sutton Antiques sale.
