Eugénie, Empress of France
A nicely coloured equestrian figure depicting Eugénie, Empress of France on horseback.
The Empress wears a cobalt blue tunic and skirt with gilt details, yellow gloves, and a white plumed hat with a green veil. The horse wears an ornate, colourful and floral-patterned saddle cloth. The title in raised gilt capitals - ‘EMPRESS . OF . FRANCE’ - is written inside a simple raised and gilt-lined banner.
This figure pairs with Louis Napoleon and is made in about four sizes. The bannered title is somewhat unusual.
The figure is in good original condition, well-coloured and decorated. There is some flaking, particularly to the base, horse’s mane and tail, and a small, old chip to the top of the plumed hat. There are some very light scratches to the glaze under very close inspection.

Height: 9.75”
Date: c. 1855
