A rare figure depicting the social reformer and philanthropist Elizabeth Fry.
An unidentified young girl stands next to the seated Elizabeth fry. Fry holds a book in her right hand and her left is around the girl. This figure was made by the Alpha Factory, possibly to commemorate Fry’s death. This figure is believed to pair with a similar figure of Lord Shaftesbury seated with a young boy - a very rare pair to find together.
Fry’s right arm and the book, as well as the girl’s left arm, have been proficiently restored. There is light wear and flaking to the rest of the figure including a spot of missing glaze and slip from the girl’s hairline and just above the gilt band of the base.
