Dancing Couple

£60.00

A charming figure of theatrical interest of a couple dancing.

The man - wearing a green jacket, white waistcoat with magenta buttons and trim, and orange britches - stands behind the woman - wearing a pink jacket, orange sash belt, and blue striped skirt - with one hand around her waist and the other holding hers.

The figure is in good condition but for a flaw at the man’s neck. A firing flaw rubs from the Adam’s apple to under the left ear and this has been reinforced with spare clay. The reinforcing clay is uncoloured and seems to be glazed, so this is probably a repair by the manufacturer. There is an old small scrape to the glaze on the rim of the base.

This is a pretty and weight figure with nice modelling and colours.

Reference: A very similar figure (though with separately modelled arms) is recorded in A & N. Harding, Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835 - 1875, Book One, p.384, fig. 1500
