A finely modelled and attractive figural spill vase depicting two a children.
The older boy - wearing a kilt, high socks, a sash, and a large plumed hat - holds a jug in his right hand. With his left, he holds the hand of the younger girl. The girl wears a plaid skirt, pink bloomers, and a plumed cocked hat. She holds an elegant bird in her left hand. They stand beneath a tree trunk which serves as a spill holder.
The most notable feature of the figure is its very ornate base which is beautifully textured with foliate patterns, flowers and traces of gilt (though the gilt is somewhat faded).
I have not been able to determine the subject of this beautifully modelled figure.
A break to the top of the spill has been repaired (see photos) but the figure is otherwise in very good condition with a small firing flaw to the little girl’s hat and kiln soot in the glaze on the back of the figure.
