A truly beautiful, unusual, and very fine porcelain figure depicting a handsome black and white spaniel sitting on a white cushion trimmed with gilt and embellished with orange tassels.
The spaniel is very well modelled and decorated with crisp, fresh textures (especially the tail) and well balanced patches of black. The two front legs and even the tail are independently modelled, giving it a real lifelike quality. The cushions is also well modelled with a generous application of gilt.
This marvellous figure is in very good condition, displaying excellently. The back-left (from the viewer’s perspective) tassel has loss and this has been overpainted quite effectively - this is not visible from the front. I could not even rule out that it was damaged prior to decoration, but I would not swear to this. There is proficient retouching to some areas of flaking resulting in a sharp, clean decorative effect.
