A very handsome Sunderland and Tyne orange lustre plaque, possibly attributable to Scott’s Southwick.
The plaque features a transfer - with light hand-painting - bearing a biblical quote from the book of Job:
‘For man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the Ghost and where is he. Job. 14. 10.’
The words are circled by a foliate and floral garland, simply coloured. The plaque is bordered with a moulded foliate pattern in pale orange lustre. Two holes are fashioned at the top, and the plaque is strung for hanging.
The plaque is in good condition but for a very small, superficial nibble at the top of the border. Two small nibbles to the back edge seem to predate glazing, but are immaterial to the visual appeal. There may be some light wear commensurate with age.
Height: 8”
Width: 9”
Date: c. 1880
