A lovely and well made Staffordshire pearlware nursery plate of octagonal form bearing a biblically themed transfer depicting the young Christ preaching before returning to His mother.
The border of the plate is decorated with hand-painted, moulder floral motifs. The good quality transfer is framed with the following text:
‘At twelve years old he talk’d with me. | The Jews all wondering stand. | Yet he obey’d his mother then. | And came at her command.’
The plate is in excellent condition with no damage. The transfer is in good order and there is only modest flaking to the hand-painted enamels. There is some very light wear to the glaze and transfer commensurate with age, and some manufacturing imperfections.
