A lovely pottery nursery plate of round form, probably made in Staffordshire, bearing a religious transfer depicting two angels watching over an infant in a cradle and a mother.
The border of the plate is decorated with moulded flowers and ringed with a dark magenta band. The lightly hand-coloured transfer is framed with the following text:
‘Hush my dear lie still and slumber | Holy angels guard they bed | Heavenly blessings without number | Gently falling on thy head’.
The plate is in good condition without cracks or large chips. There is some wear to the moulded flowers which has caused loss of glaze and discolouration. Portions of the rim are worn and show some spots of pitting and small nibbles.
