A lovely and well made Staffordshire nursery plate of circular form bearing a hand-painted biblically themed transfer depicting two angels looking over a child resting on a chaise longue.
The
The border of the plate is decorated with undecorated moulded daisy-like flowers. The lovely transfer is framed with the following text:
‘I lay my body down to sleep: Let angels guard my heard. | And through the hours of darkness keep | Their watch around my bed.’
The plate is in excellent condition with no damage. The transfer is in very good order. A shallow chip to the back of the plate is glazed, indicating it occurred during manufacture. There may be some very light wear to the glaze commensurate with age.
