A delightful and unusual pearlware child’s plate featuring a hand-painted scene of the crucifixion of Christ and the biblical reference John 19:34.
Around the rim is a pattern of moths and vines, simply decorated with strokes of bold colours.
There is a small chip on the ‘west’ side of the rim and the enameller has neglected to colour the ‘north west’ moth. The form of the plate is rather bowed but this is not at all unusual.
