A beautiful and elegant unmarked Parian bust of Clytie the water nymph.
This bust is based on a Greco-Roman marble original. Several Parian makers produced busts of Clytie including Copeland and Belleek. This particular bust is unmarked. It is fastened to its base with slip rather than a bolt.
The bust is in good condition. There is a small fleck of paint visible in the images which may be concealing a superficial chip. I have not endeavoured to remove it, but it is only a subtle blemish. Various spots of debris are visible in the Parian body, as is typical, but the bust shows only general age-related wear.
(Please note - due to lighting quirks, some images appear ‘peach’ in colour. The bust is, in fact, the creamy white typical of the medium.)
Reference: A similar bust (Copeland) is pictured in C. & D. Shinn, Victorian Parian China, p. 31
Height: 10”
Date: c. 1870
