A very fine feldspathic stoneware hunting mug of Castleford type with a thick blue rim and blue-trimmed handle.
The mug displays a delicate and elegant applied hunting scene with horses, hounds, hunters, fences, foliage, and a captured fox.
The mug displays beautifully and is in very good condition with no loss or apparent restoration. The only flaws of note: There are two small old chips to the rim of the base and some small firing flaws around the rim and at the base of the handle; there is a negligible stress crack emanating from the rim down the inside of the mug to about an inch and a half, and some tiny crack to the applied motifs which seem to date to manufacture; there is some light discolouration in places as is expected with feldspathic stoneware of this colour.
Height: 5.25”
Date: c. 1790 - 1820
